At Regent, our Executive Leadership Team plays a vital role in shaping our strategy, culture, and future. Through our ELT Spotlight series, we’re proud to introduce the leaders who guide our mission and drive operational excellence across the organization.
This month, we’re highlighting Erik Kraemer, Chief Development Officer. With a focus on quality care, Erik leads Regent’s development team and oversees the strategy to partner with leading health systems, expanding our portfolio of high-performance surgery centers across the United States.
Tell us a little about your background and what brought you to Regent.
I’ve been in the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) industry for nearly 20 years. I come from a family of physicians, and I’ve held roles across managed care, anesthesia, and development in both large and small companies. I’ve always been drawn to dynamic organizations that challenge the status quo. Regent is one of those companies—our owners, our people, and our approaches are different from others in the industry. I believe we have a real opportunity to be difference makers.
What’s one trend in ambulatory surgery you’re watching closely?
I’m fascinated by the accelerating focus on ambulatory care across the healthcare industry. We’re seeing momentum from hospitals, payers, technology partners, and physicians, which is great for the healthcare system overall. This topic has generated a lot of rhetoric for years, but recently I’ve seen tangible acceleration among physician groups and health systems. I’m excited about the future.
How do you see Regent’s role evolving over the next five years?
Like any healthcare company, I think Regent needs to continue identifying solutions that help our partners achieve their strategic goals while delivering outstanding care and patient experiences. Whether the challenge is physician ownership, capacity constraints, data coordination, cost savings, or other financial levers, I view Regent as the enabler of the next generation of surgical care.
What do you look for in a new ASC partner?
First and foremost, I look for a cultural commitment to quality of care. It starts there, and it’s something we will never compromise when contemplating partnerships. If there isn’t alignment on quality, the math or other strategic benefits won’t matter.
How are you positioning Regent for growth in new markets?
Something I learned a long time ago from pioneers in the ASC industry is that being the partner of choice is critical to sustainable growth. Regent has invested heavily in infrastructure, technology, analytics, and culture to deliver on that promise. Being the partner of choice also means being nimble and flexible in deal structures, data integration, and process so we can meet partners where they are while still achieving our collective goals.
Erik’s development strategy has supported Regent’s latest partnerships, including efforts to expand Cleveland Clinic’s ambulatory surgery presence and create new ASC capabilities at Mass General Brigham.
