By Riley Orr, Chief Operating Officer
In the fast-evolving world of ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), success depends on many factors, primarily operational excellence and strong relationships. Over the course of my career in the ASC sector, I’ve followed one key principle: prioritize the needs of patients, physicians and partners, and everything else will follow.
A Patient-First Philosophy
At the heart of Regent’s approach is a commitment to fostering an environment where patients feel welcomed, valued, and fully prepared for their care journey with us. Above all, our commitment must always be to protect and care for our patients with every ounce of energy and fight we have. Ensuring that clinical quality and compassionate care are non-negotiable priorities strengthens trust with physicians and health systems alike, creating an experience that everyone benefits from—patients receive exceptional care, and our partners experience the value of true collaboration.
Servant Leadership and Transparency
Over the course of my career, which has spanned roles from ASC Administrator to Regional Operations lead and COO, I have championed servant leadership, meeting people where they are and creating lines of open communication with team members and partners.
Steered by a leadership team that emphasizes integrity, humility, and accessibility, Regent values input from all levels, ensuring physicians, staff, and health systems are heard and their challenges are addressed collaboratively. By promoting transparency and mutual respect, we form partnerships rooted in trust, empowering everyone to achieve shared goals.
Relentless Innovation in the ASC Space
Innovation has always been a cornerstone of our approach to redefining the surgical care space. ASCs represent the cutting edge of outpatient care, and with ingenuity being a large part of Regent’s values-driven culture, we are committed to leading the way in efficiency and quality.
Developing tools and systems that empower physicians with actionable insights is one of our key focus areas. We’re rolling out a new data tool that aggregates EMR and patient accounting data into a digestible format for our physician partners. By providing insights into cost efficiency, case types, and national benchmarks, we’re able to empower physicians to make informed decisions that enhance both clinical and operational outcomes.
These tools, combined with face-to-face engagement, have been essential to Regent’s operational and managerial strategy and have accelerated growth, operational excellence, and improved patient outcomes for partners.
Growth Without Losing Touch
Balancing growth with attentiveness is a fundamental aspect of our strategy. As the healthcare industry scales, some sectors risk losing personal connections. We’ve been intentional about avoiding this pitfall by preserving those critical connections—whether it’s face-to-face time with staff and partners or ensuring that physicians’ voices remain central to our decision-making processes. Safeguarding that personalized touch, which is oftentimes the defining factor in providing great care, is of the utmost importance as we drive the industry forward.
The ASC space is unique in that it blends the efficiency of a business with the intimacy of healthcare. In fact, this duality is what initially drew me to Regent, an organization nimble enough to be responsive to fluctuating market and industry trends while having the resources to innovate and provide care at the highest level. This balance is what enables us to provide unparalleled service to our partners while never losing sight of what matters most: the patients we serve.
The Regent Way
In a healthcare landscape increasingly driven by productivity metrics, Regent stands out by prioritizing relationships and patient-centered care. Through a thoughtful blend of innovative tools, personal engagement, and unwavering transparency, Regent is able to deliver meaningful change without compromising its core values.
The future is clear: by prioritizing what’s best for our patients and partners, sustainable success follows. We’re not just improving outcomes but redefining what’s possible in the ASC space—one relationship at a time.
