Regent Surgical Health named Kathy Horowitz, Administrator and Director of Nursing for The Center for Specialized Surgery in Ft. Myers, Fla., winner of the company’s first R.I.S.E. Administrator of the Year award at this year’s annual meeting for ambulatory surgery center (ASC) administrators.
The award recognized Ms. Horowitz, a five-year employee of the Ft. Myers ASC, for stellar performance in three areas:
- Profitability: in terms of net revenue, saving money on supplies and labor, and earnings
- Growth: via both new physicians and existing partners
- Satisfaction: among employees, physicians, and patients
“2017 was the inaugural year for this award, and we thought long and hard about how to identify and recognize the best administrator out there,” explains David Moody, vice president of operations at Regent. “We have so many excellent administrators across our system, but we knew we made the right choice when the metrics pointed to a person who also happens to personify our R.I.S.E. values.”

“I feel truly blessed and honored to receive this award,” Ms. Horowitz says, “and I’m still in a bit of shock.”
“Kathy’s success as an administrator stems from the fact that she’s so highly respected, not only by all of the physicians at our center, but also the employees,” says Dr. Fletcher Reynolds, a partner at the Ft. Myers Center for Specialized Surgery.
“She’s someone who will always jump in, and she never asks anyone to do something she’s not willing to do herself,” Dr. Reynolds continues. “She’ll put gloves on and help in the OR, or clean instruments. The staff respects her because she’s not just telling them what to do. And, she doesn’t shy away from conflict. She helps work out disputes over scheduling, case times, and other issues that some just don’t want to be involved with. That makes the physicians respect her as well. Kathy does a really great job, and is a true asset to our center.”
Ms. Horowitz received a beautiful, personalized glass trophy, as well as an all-expense-paid vacation for two to Hawaii. Carol Poppiti, administrator and director of nursing at Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Endosurgical Center in East Brunswick, NJ, was awarded the second-place prize, receiving a special certificate and gift card.
