(New Brunswick, NJ) – Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH) announced today it is partnering with Regent Surgical Health to convert the Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion at RWJ from a Hospital Outpatient Department (HOPD) to a Physician Joint Venture. “Our outpatient surgery pavilion is second to none in clinical quality, and we viewed this as an excellent opportunity to increase our level of integration with our physicians,” said Stephen K. Jones, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Robert Wood Johnson Health System. “Patients benefit when doctors and hospitals share the common goal of continually improving the delivery of the Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion’s clinical and operational quality.” The Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion at RWJ opened in 2010 as a HOPD. In 2011, RWJUH approached Regent Surgical Health to invite local surgeons to participate in the center as partners. Regent was chosen for its extensive joint venture experience and ownership model. “Our model lets hospitals and physicians do what they do best, which is providing outstanding patient care.” said Tom Mallon, Regent’s founder and CEO. “As the management company, our job is to support the physicians and the hospital and make sure the center runs as efficiently as possible.” “This is a unique opportunity for leading surgeons in the community to partner with a nationally distinguished academic medical center – it’s a win-win situation for all involved,” adds Paul Abend, D.O., Chairman of the Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion’s Board. “Through our combined talent and resources, we are confident that patients who come to our center will receive exceptional care.” The Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion at RWJ is a state-of-the-art, 13,000-square-foot same-day surgery center located on the fourth floor of RWJUH’s Plum Street facility in New Brunswick. The Ambulatory Surgical Pavilion features four operating rooms, one procedure room, a 10-bed post-anesthesia care unit as well as a 13-bed pre- and post-operative area. The multispecialty center offers general, gynecological, vascular, plastic, podiatric and retina-vitreous surgery, as well as pain management, endoscopy and orthopedic procedures.
